PATENT DERIVATION PROCEEDINGS
Derivation proceedings are similar to interference proceedings in that you are saying that you invented something first, and that a person filed a patent application which essentially steals your idea. Derivation proceedings are supposed to make sure that only the true inventor will receive a patent on an invention. This provision is expected to go into force sometime in 2013.
